If you’ve seen a calf stand on its new legs for the first time, you’ve likely thought, “How can it even stand upright? Those legs look like they couldn’t even support half the weight!”
And as we journey through life’s various events we frequently find ourselves needing to try out new, spindly legs, legs that don’t feel they can support the weight of all that we have been handling. And we certainly will ask ourselves the question, “How am I even upright?”
But, like the calf, we take a wobbly, tentative step. And then another. And another. And soon, maybe much sooner than we would expect, we are walking.
Special encouragement comes from knowing that the source of our strength for those wobbly, tentative steps is a baby born into a setting where everything was wobbly and tentative. A borrowed manger. A nervous dad. A young mom. And likely, a young calf trying out its new legs.
When you think about it, it’s what we celebrate in the Nativity: God coming to dwell alongside our wobbliness. May Christmas bring strength to you wherever you feel wobbly. Merry Christmas! From InWord
