TASK #5: Sessions 5-6
Thank you again for your help, wisdom, and willingness to tap into your personal journey.
We are on to Task #5 and sessions 5 and 6. And by the way, if you have missed any of the previous tasks, that’s cool. You can pick up at any point you want from the other tasks. As you scroll down you’ll see the other tasks. Any little bit is a big help!
Candid Note: I’m struggling a bit with Session 6. It’s a huge concept and I’m not sure it’s presented in the best way. Plus, I took an entirely different approach to introducing the subject: I told a story (which is out of character for an InWord study). So, I’m really curious if this works for you.
The links to the documents are below. You can download a Word document or a PDF or both). Would you go through one or both of these sessions over the next 12 days (I know that deadlines help me, so it would be a deadline of Nov. 14)? These documents are the leader’s personal prep (an adult youth leader) which is a personal study on the subject matter. You could think of yourself as either prepping to lead a session, or simply doing this for your own personal study.
Session 5 Documents

Session 5: God Redeems the Pain. Really? (Word Doc)
Session 6 Documents
Session 6: The Promise of Hope: It’s Worth It!! (PDF)
Session 6: The Promise of Hope: It’s Worth It!! (Word Doc)
Some feedback I’d be interested in for Task 5:
- Did you find the study exercises intriguing? Did you learn anything new?
- These sessions begin to present the hope at the end of the tunnel of suffering. Do you feel that happening?
- As I mentioned, Session 6 is a challenge. Did it work for you? How would you improve it?
- Feel free to comment on any typos or grammar/editing issues. However, these are still rough drafts and there is much editing and design work to do. The final design will look very different.
- Do you see any ways these two sessions could improve?
- Any general thoughts?
You’ll also see a link to download the synopsis so that you can see where these two sessions fit into the big scheme of the study in case you need a refresher.
Options to communicate feedback:

Thank you so much!!

TASK #4: Title
Dear Great InWord Loss Team!
We are finalizing the cover for the Loss study. Here is a quick task: helping to choose a title for study. I’m equivocating between a couple of options, which are noted below. I’ve also pasted in an image of the front cover. You’ll see the working title of “Lossology” on that cover. Would you mind giving me a quick weigh in of either a vote on the two or maybe you have another idea? Deadline: Since this is a quickie, it’d be great to have title feedback by Tuesday, October 24. Shoot me your vote and maybe a note about why you picked what you picked.
BTW, you’ll find below tasks 1-3 as well as the synopsis of the study in case you’d like to review the content in relation to the study title ideas.
Thank you!
Barry
Title Ideas:
- A Holy Cry: Building Your Personal Theology of Loss
- Lossology 101: Developing a Personal Theology of Loss
- ???
(The “cry” reference is keying off of Jesus’ snort crying in John 11, which one of the sessions focuses on. I was even toying that that as the study title: “The Holy Snort Cry: Developing a Personal Theology of Loss.” But that doesn’t seem to fit the cover images and might be a bit much 🙂 )

TASK #3
Hello Great InWord “Lossology” Team!
Thank you for your help, wisdom, and willingness to tap into your personal journey. Task 3 is noted below. If you’d still like to do Task 2 (or 1), they are also noted below. Let me just say: any little bit is a big help! Thank you!!
Barry
I have completed rough drafts of Sessions 3 and 4 (out of an eventual total of seven-ish) for the leader prep. The links to these documents are below, beneath the task description (you can download a Word document or a PDF or both). Would you go through one or both of these sessions over the next 10 days (I know that deadlines help me, so it would be a deadline of Oct 22)? These documents are the leader’s personal prep (an adult youth leader), a personal study on the subject matter. You could think of yourself as either prepping to lead a session, or simply doing this for your own personal study.
Some feedback I’d be interested in for Task 3:
- Did you find the study exercises intriguing? Did you learn anything new?
- These sessions begin to get at the heart of developing a personal theology of loss. Do you feel that these exercises are helping you develop/tweak your own theology of loss?
- Session 4 is a little different, more of an excursion through Scripture, and actually a little shorter
- Feel free to comment on any typos or grammar/editing issues. However, these are still rough drafts and there is much editing and design work to do. The final design will look very different.
- Do you see any ways these two sessions could improve?
- Any general thoughts?
You’ll also see a link to download the synopsis at the bottom of Task 2 so that you can see where these two sessions fit into the big scheme of the study in case you need a refresher.
Options to communicate feedback:

TASK #2
I have completed rough drafts of the first two sessions (out of an eventual total of seven-ish) for the leader prep. The links to these documents are below, after the task description (you can download a Word document or a PDF or both). InWord Lossology Study Synopsis
TASK #1
Download the synopsis of the study (two different formats) using the links in the prior paragraph. In the synopsis you’ll see an overview for each session as well as hopeful takeaways (Building Blocks, Application). This synopsis gives you a big picture of the study’s direction. As you read through this study, I’d be interested in your thoughts on:
- Am I missing anything?
- In what ways have you found the precepts/truths in this synopsis ring true in your own journey?
- What general feedback do you have, both constructive criticism and “Amen to that” feedback?
Feel free to use the “insert comments” feature for whichever format you are most familiar, or simply write up your thoughts in an email and send to me (barry@inword.org). If you’d like the document in a different format, let me know.
