The Easter season provides opportunity for countless Bible moments that make you go “wow.” Below are five faves. The key word in the headline, however: digging. These Bible moments are best served through self-discovery, so you’ll see the minimum amount of detail necessary to get you well on your way to your own Easter moments. So, grab a Bible or favorite Bible app, choose a moment below (or all five) and you’re off and running…or digging, as the case may be.
1. Super Slow Mo Detail in John
When you consider the number of chapters in the gospel of John, his placement of Jesus’ triumphal entry, in stark contrast to the other gospels, clues you in on the detail “the one Jesus loved” devotes to Jesus’ final days of earthly ministry. The detail he gives us after that point (e.g., feet washing, farewell convo, trial) is the equivalent of a super slow motion camera recording Jesus’ final days.
2. Two Disciples on the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24)
This little scene gives us a big picture on how to experience the resurrected Jesus today. We are, on many levels, those two disciples.
3. Jesus’ First Post-Resurrection Words to His Disciples
John 20 records for us three instances of Jesus greeting His disciples (twice in one setting, and once with Thomas) after His resurrection. These were the first words the disciples heard out of Jesus’ resurrected mouth. Jesus could have said many things, including “I told you so,” which makes these words all the more important, especially when you compare them to words Jesus spoke before His resurrection in John 14:27 and 16:33.
4. The Before and After Contrast of Peter’s Confidence Factor
We see a stark difference in Peter’s boldness (or lack thereof) between the days before Jesus’ resurrection (Matthew 26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; Luke 22:55-62) and the days after (Acts 4:1-21). Add to the mix the threat-level difference between a servant girl and the authorities who had Jesus killed.
5. Follow the Resurrection Power
Search for words related to “resurrection” (resurrect, raised) through the New Testament and keep a running list of how Jesus’ resurrection impacts not only the prospect of eternal life, but also the detail of daily living.
