You can find many types of teen devotionals (or devos, as they are often affectionately called), so we thought it might be good to provide a little more detail on the InWord philosophy of teen devotionals, what we affectionately call a Bite-Sized Chunk of God’s Word.
- God’s Word is the Point: Our goal for each devotional is for the student to interact more with God’s words than with our words. Our words are simply prompts. We use a time-tested, teen-distilled approach to guide teens through a bite-sized chunk of Scripture. In this way teens are interacting with what God says, not so much with what we think about what God says. We trust God’s Word to do what it says it can do.
- Inner Core: Bible study, whether small-group or devotional, is in the DNA of what we do; in fact, it’s the only thing we do.
- Self-Feeders: One of the goals of each devotional is to help teens learn how they can engage in Scripture for life.
- Bite-Sized Chunk of God’s Word: What do we mean by that? Each devo takes a bite-sized chunk of Scripture and engages the students in a deep and meaningful way with that small passage—helping them chew on it, ruminate on it, and do what it says. The Bible can seem overwhelming but as we take it one small bite at a time, we can easily see how it all fits together.
- The Rhythm of “Hear and Do”: It’s a running theme through Scripture. Each devo follows this rhythm, giving students opportunity to hear God’s Word and then do what they hear.
- Multi-Platform: The devos are produced to be used on an e-device or downloaded as a pdf to be printed.
- Content Team: InWord’s content team (writers, editors) is a cross section of youth ministry newbies and vets, representing varied youth ministry experiences across multi-denominational backgrounds.
- History: InWord has been producing teen devotionals since 1997, touching the lives of thousands of teens, tens of thousands in fact.
In short, InWord takes Bible engagement very seriously. We consider it a sacred task to prepare a guide to help teens experience Scripture. Our prayer is that we be good stewards of the calling God has entrusted to us. Thank you for taking a deeper look.
